A Samsung dishwasher that leaks or shows LC
Water in the base trips a sensor down there. You'll see LC and hear the drain pump running, and the dishwasher may not shut off at all. A worn door gasket, suds from the wrong detergent and a loose hose connection are the common causes. On Waterwall models, add a blocked reflector that sprays water toward the door.
Draining, filling and dirty dishes
Standing water with 5C mostly comes from a clogged filter, with a kinked drain hose in second place. Was the dishwasher just installed next to a new garbage disposal? Then the disposal's knockout plug may still be in. With all of that clear and the pump humming, the drain pump is next.
A 4C code means a fill problem. Check the supply valve under the sink. When the water is on and pressure is fine, the water inlet valve is the part that typically fails.
Dishes coming out dirty? Clean the filter and make sure the spray arms spin freely with clear holes. On Waterwall models, streaky results or a 7E code can mean the reflector isn't traveling across the tub.
The door that opens on its own
On AutoRelease models, a door that pops open about five inches at the end is doing exactly what it should. It's venting steam. A door that won't latch when a cycle starts needs its latch inspected.
Samsung dishwasher codes
| Code | What it usually means |
|---|
| 4C, 4E | Incoming water is short on pressure or off on temperature |
| 5C, 5E, SC, SE | Not draining |
| LC, LE | Water in the base set off the leak sensor, so the drain pump kicks on |
| OC, 0C, oE | Too much water in the tub |
| HE | Heater or water temperature reading problem |
| tE | Temperature sensor problem |
| 3E | Incoming hot water is too hot |
| 3C | Wash pump problem |
| 1E, IE | Heater problem on non-Waterwall models. On Waterwall models it means the filter is clogged |
| 7E | Waterwall reflector is stuck or not traveling the way it should |
| bE, 6E | Stuck button on the control panel |
Codes vary by model. Troubleshoot first and clear the code later. Samsung's point is that wiping it away before you've found the cause just invites it back.
Checks you can do tonight
- Take out the filter at the bottom of the tub and rinse it, following your manual.
- Straighten the drain hose behind the dishwasher.
- Stick to dishwasher detergent. Never use hand dish soap.
- An HE, tE or 1E code calls for a test run. Take everything out, put detergent in and start a Normal cycle. A repeat of the code means it's time to turn the breaker off and book service.
For the model label, look at the inside edge of the tub opening first, then along the door's top and side edges.
Scale from hard water
Much of Minnesota and Southwest Florida has hard water, and over time it leaves scale on spray arms and filters. Keep the rinse aid filled. When glassware starts looking cloudy, check the filter and arms first.
What's worth fixing on a Samsung dishwasher
Pumps, inlet valves, door gaskets, latches and spray arms are routine repairs. A corroded tub, or a leak that has already damaged the floor or cabinets, changes the math. Some Samsung dishwashers carry longer coverage on the stainless tub, so check your paperwork. Coverage differs from one model and purchase year to the next, so your own paperwork has the final say.
