Kenmore appliances, long sold through Sears, were built by makers like Whirlpool, LG, Frigidaire and Electrolux. Your model number tells us who built yours, so we bring the right parts.
Kenmore started as a Sears house brand, and for decades every Kenmore appliance was made by some other manufacturer under contract. Whirlpool, LG, Electrolux (Frigidaire), Samsung and GE all built them at one point, along with others. Whirlpool had been the biggest supplier until it ended its partnership with Sears in 2017. Transformco owns the brand now, and newer Kenmore products also sell through Amazon and other retailers.
For a repair, that history matters more than anything else. A Kenmore dryer built by Whirlpool and one built by LG have nothing in common inside except the badge.
Most Kenmore model numbers start with a three-digit code, usually followed by a period, as in 790.74333310. Sears calls this the source code, and it identifies the company that made the appliance. These are the prefixes we see most:
A few prefixes show up on more than one manufacturer's list. That's why we order parts by the full model number and not just the first three digits.
There's no single spot. A washer's tag may be on the back panel, around the door frame or under the lid. For a dryer, try the back, then behind the control panel and around the door opening. Refrigerators tuck it behind a crisper drawer or put it on a fresh-food side wall, up near the ceiling or down near the floor. On a dishwasher, check the inside edge of the door and the rim of the tub. Ranges put it on the frame behind the storage drawer or on the oven door frame.
Don't go by an old receipt or manual. Read the full model number straight off the tag, because the model and serial number are what tell us who built the appliance and which parts fit it.

The resident turned in his DW and the lower, right corner of the machine arched or and made a loud pop noise. I removed the toe kick and the cover over the power chord and found that the wire nuts have worn away and allowed voltage to come in contact with the cover. There is a ground wire in place, but Ill have to reconnect the DW to power before I know if anything further is damaged. I removed the damaged portion of the powered supply cord and the damaged portion of the power harness to the dishwasher and installed new wire nuts to securely hold the two power sources together, plug the machine back in and tested to see if the motor was damaged and everything works fine it fills it drains and it washes. Its good to go.

Kenmore has never had factories of its own. Its appliances were built under contract by companies including Whirlpool, LG, Electrolux (Frigidaire), Samsung and GE. The first three digits of the model number, called the source code, show the maker. For example, 110 is Whirlpool, 790 is Frigidaire and 795 is LG. Transformco owns the brand today.
That's the source code, and it tells you which manufacturer built the appliance for Kenmore. The digits after it identify the specific model. A number starting 106 or 110 came from Whirlpool, 790 from Frigidaire, and 795 or 796 from LG. Some codes appear on more than one manufacturer's list, so parts always get matched to the full number.
Generally, as long as the part matches your model. Whirlpool-built Kenmores use Whirlpool part numbers, and LG-built Kenmore washers and dryers list LG part numbers. Even a part from the right manufacturer only fits if it's listed for your exact Kenmore model number. Look it up by the full number on the tag, not by brand.
Kenmore was a Sears brand for about a century. After the Sears Holdings bankruptcy it went to Transformco, which licenses the name, and Kenmore products now also sell through Amazon and other retailers. Older Kenmores already in people's homes get repaired with parts from whichever company originally built them.
The trip and diagnostic fee depends on the appliance, starting at $129. Your technician quotes the repair upfront using the Appliance Blue Book, before any work begins.
Repairs you pay us for directly come with a 10-year warranty on parts and a 60-day labor warranty. When a manufacturer, home warranty company or other third party pays for the repair, that company's warranty applies instead.
Kenmore is a trademark of its owner.
