Bosch in a nutshell, and what the series numbers mean
Bosch is the flagship brand of BSH Home Appliances, a German company. In North America most people know Bosch for dishwashers. Those come out of a Bosch plant in New Bern, North Carolina, except the top Benchmark line, which is built in Germany. The kitchen side also includes slide-in ranges in gas, electric, induction and dual fuel, plus wall ovens, cooktops, microwaves and counter-depth French-door refrigerators. There are compact washers and dryers too.
The lineup is split into tiers called 100, 300, 500, 800 and Benchmark. Under the skin, a 100 Series washes dishes with the same core system as the pricier tiers. Moving up gets you quieter operation, a third rack and better drying. That's good news at repair time, because a lot of pumps, sensors and door parts carry over from one series to the next.
The E-Nr and FD numbers we'll ask for
Bosch puts two numbers on its rating plate. The E-Nr is the model number and the FD is the production code. Please have both handy when you book. Bosch tends to change parts in the middle of a model run, and the FD tells us which version you actually own.
On a dishwasher, open the door and look along its edges for the plate. A wall oven has it on the side wall inside the oven cavity, where you can see it with the door open. Ranges, refrigerators and laundry vary by model, so the owner's manual or Bosch's model-number finder will show you the exact spot.
Two Bosch quirks that matter for repairs
Bosch dishwashers have a float sensor sitting in the base tray. Once water collects there, the machine stops filling and runs the drain pump. A slow drip from a door seal can still sneak past it, though.
Most Bosch dishwashers also have no exposed heating element in the tub. The lower tiers dry by condensation, and some 800 and Benchmark models use a zeolite mineral Bosch calls CrystalDry. On most models plastics come out wet, and that's normal.
A little upkeep goes a long way
Rinse the dishwasher filter on a regular schedule and keep the rinse aid topped up, because Bosch drying leans on it. Benchmark models with a built-in softener take real dishwasher salt. Never use table salt or water-softener pellets in them. For ranges and wall ovens, stick to the cleaning cycles and products your manual lists.

Where is the model number on my Bosch dishwasher?
Open the door and check along the side and top edges of the inner door. There's a rating plate with the model number, marked E-Nr, and the production code, marked FD. Write both down. Bosch revises parts during a production run, so the FD lets us order the right part the first time.
What does the Bosch warranty cover?
According to Bosch's US warranty page, dishwashers, ranges, refrigerators and compact laundry get one year of parts and labor on the whole appliance. On dishwashers, the tub liner is covered for life against rust-through, and from year two to year five the racks and electronics stay covered for parts only. Built-in refrigerators get extra parts coverage as well. Coverage differs from one model and purchase year to the next, so your own paperwork has the final say.
Are Bosch 100, 300, 500 and 800 series dishwashers built differently?
Not by much. All of them share the same core wash system. The higher tiers mostly add lower noise ratings, a third rack, more flexible racks and better drying like CrystalDry. From a repair point of view, pumps, sensors and plenty of common parts are shared, so a lower-series model is usually just as fixable as a pricier one.
Why are plastics still wet after my Bosch dishwasher finishes?
Bosch dries with condensation, not a hot element you can see. Glass and ceramic hold enough heat to dry off, and plastic doesn't. Keep the rinse aid full, leave space between items and pick an extra-dry option if your model has one. Some 800 and Benchmark models with CrystalDry handle plastics better.
