What we fix most on Frigidaire refrigerators

  1. Ice maker
  2. Defrost system (heater, thermostat, sensor)
  3. Water valve or water line
  4. Compressor or sealed system
  5. Door gasket or hinge
  6. Evaporator fan motor

Counted from our technicians' notes on 300 Frigidaire refrigerator service calls.

Freezer cold, fridge warm? Start here

It's one of the most common complaints on Frigidaire refrigerators. The evaporator fan pushes cold air off the freezer coil and into the fresh food side, so when that fan quits, the freezer stays cold and the fridge slowly warms up. A bad defrost heater, defrost thermostat or sensor can do it too. The coil frosts over until air can't get through. Heavy frost on the freezer's back panel is a good sign the defrost side is the problem.

The ice maker quit on you

Rule out the easy stuff first. The ice maker might be switched off, or a cube may be holding the wire signal arm up. Then look at the water. A closed shutoff valve, a kinked line behind the fridge, or a filter that's clogged or loose will starve the ice maker. If the cubes come out undersized or hollow, they're short on water, usually because the fill tube is partly frozen or the inlet valve is getting weak.

Both sides warm, or it never shuts off

Dusty condenser coils or a dead condenser fan leave the system working hard without getting rid of heat. When those check out, the trouble may be the compressor's start components or the sealed system itself. Refrigerant work requires a licensed technician.

Doors matter too. A torn gasket or sagging hinge lets warm, humid air in, and you get frost and sweating. A fridge that isn't level may not swing its doors closed on its own.

Five quick checks before you book

  • Check the breaker or GFCI outlet, and make sure the display isn't stuck in showroom (demo) mode.
  • Look at the settings. Frigidaire suggests starting at 37°F for the fridge and 0°F for the freezer, then giving it 24 hours to settle after any change.
  • Move food away from the air vents in both compartments.
  • Pull the water filter and reseat it until it locks, or replace it if it's six months old.
  • Make sure the ice maker is on. On many electronic models you press and hold the ice maker button for three seconds.

When you call, have the model number ready. French door and side-by-side models put it near the top of the right wall in the fresh food section, and top-freezers use the left wall.

Which repairs are worth paying for

Fans, defrost parts, water valves, ice makers and gaskets are straightforward part swaps, and on a refrigerator that's otherwise sound they make sense. A compressor or refrigerant leak is a bigger call, and the age and condition of the cabinet should factor in.

Frigidaire refrigerator repair FAQ

What goes wrong most often on Frigidaire refrigerators?

In our technicians' notes on 300 Frigidaire refrigerator service calls, the repairs that come up most involve the ice maker, defrost system (heater, thermostat, sensor) and water valve or water line. The list near the top of this page shows the rest.

How many Frigidaire refrigerators have you repaired?

300 Frigidaire refrigerator repairs are in our service records so far, and customers rated those visits 4.9 out of 5 stars.

Why is my Frigidaire fridge not cooling but the freezer is cold?

Cold air isn't making it to the fresh food side. The evaporator fan may have stopped, or the evaporator coil iced over after a defrost heater, defrost thermostat or sensor failed. Make sure food isn't blocking the vents first. If the back panel of the freezer is heavily frosted, or you can't hear the fan when you press the door switch, it needs a technician.

Why did my Frigidaire ice maker stop making ice?

Start with the water filter. It should be locked in place and less than six months old. Then follow the supply back and confirm the line isn't kinked and the house valve is open. Make sure the ice maker is switched on with no cubes holding the signal arm up, and keep in mind that a warm freezer slows ice production. If water comes out of the dispenser but never reaches the ice maker, suspect the inlet valve or a frozen fill tube.

What temperature should I set my Frigidaire refrigerator to?

Frigidaire's targets are 37°F for the fresh food section and 0°F for the freezer. Electronic-control models let you adjust from roughly 33°F to 43°F in the fridge and -6°F to 4°F in the freezer. Give it about 24 hours to settle after you change a setting or install a new unit before deciding whether it's right.

How long before a new Frigidaire fridge makes ice?

Plan on up to 24 hours. A newly plugged-in freezer has to settle at temperature first, and Frigidaire says that can take a full day. Check that the ice maker is switched on, the fridge is hooked to the water line and the supply valve is open. Toss the first few batches of ice after a new install or a filter change.

How much does Frigidaire refrigerator repair cost?

The trip and diagnostic fee starts at $129. Your technician quotes the repair upfront using the Appliance Blue Book, before any work begins, so you can decide with no surprises.

Are you a factory-authorized Frigidaire service provider?

Yes. Omega Force Appliance Repair is a factory-authorized Frigidaire service provider.

Is the repair guaranteed?

Repairs you pay us for directly come with a 10-year warranty on parts and a 60-day labor warranty. When a manufacturer, home warranty company or other third party pays for the repair, that company's warranty applies instead.

Omega Force Appliance Repair is a factory-authorized Frigidaire service provider.
