What goes wrong with Liebherr refrigerators, and why
Ice makers come first. Liebherr ice makers need a fixed water connection, and after setup the first ice can take up to 24 hours. When an ice maker that was working stops, look at the supply line, the filter, the inlet valve or the ice maker itself.
Frost building up in the freezer is another. NoFrost models defrost on their own, so frost on the back wall, or poor cooling, points to the defrost system. That means the heater, the defrost thermostat or the sensor that ends the defrost cycle. On models without NoFrost, an occasional manual defrost is normal.
Temperatures that drift, or a fault message on the display, can come from the sensors. Liebherr electronics read a temperature sensor in each compartment, and a failed one can make a zone run too warm or too cold, or trigger a warning.
Then there's the unit that won't cool at all, or cools on one side only. Liebherr fridge-freezers use DuoCooling, two independent cooling circuits with no air moving between compartments. So a warm refrigerator next to a cold freezer can trace to the refrigerator's own fan or sensor, or to its own circuit.
Water on the floor comes from the supply line or the inlet valve in most cases. Liebherr's manual says to install new water line hardware, not reuse an old line.
A door that won't seal causes its own set of problems. Built-in models have soft-close hinges and heavy custom panels. When a door sags or a gasket tears, warm humid air gets in, and you get frost and sweating.
Modes and settings that look like a breakdown
Run through these settings before booking a repair.
- A fridge sitting at 59°F may just have HolidayMode on, which raises the fridge section to 59°F on purpose.
- Lights and display working with no cooling can mean DemoMode is on. Hold DemoMode for 3 seconds within 5 minutes of power-up.
- CleaningMode shuts the fridge section off for manual cleaning and turns itself off after 60 minutes.
- SabbathMode locks most controls and disables the door and temperature alarms.
- Produce freezing in the BioFresh drawer comes down to the setting, which runs from B1 (coldest) to B9 with B5 as the default. B1 through B4 can reach 32°F.
- Check the breaker, and make sure the ventilation slots and grille aren't blocked.
The plate with your model, index and serial
The serial plate is inside the refrigerator, low on the left side, and it's often hidden behind a drawer or shelf you'll need to slide out. Monolith columns have it behind the first drawer. Write down the model along with its index number, the service number and the serial number.
Two filters and a cooling shortcut
After a big grocery run, turn on SuperCool instead of turning the temperature all the way down. It shuts itself off. Replace the water filter and the FreshAir carbon filter on the schedule in your manual.
Shutting down a Naples home for the summer
Closing a Naples home for the summer? Empty the fridge section and use HolidayMode, but leave the freezer running. Shut off the ice maker and its water valve too, so a failed line can't leak for months. After a hurricane-season outage, a Liebherr temperature alarm may go off when power comes back. A full freezer that stayed closed holds a safe temperature for about 48 hours. The fridge section only manages about 4.
Is a Liebherr refrigerator worth repairing?
Liebherr's warranty covers the sealed system with parts and labor for five years and parts only through year twelve, so plenty of compressor problems on newer units are at least partly covered. Your warranty sheet or receipt will show exactly what's covered on your model. Built-in Liebherr units are sized for their cabinet opening and frequently carry custom panels, which means a replacement has to match that opening and the panel hardware. For sensor, defrost, ice maker and door problems, repair is usually the practical call.

Liebherr refrigerator. Upper freezer drawer not opening properly. Found ice build up on right side of freezer drawer slide. Disassembled freezer drawer. Checked ice maker. Ice maker is disconnected. Used steamer to clear all ice build up from right side upper freezer drawer slide. Lubricants all drawer slides. Door seals all look good. No air gaps found. At this time freezer drawers are all opening and closing properly. It appears this may have happened due to the freezer drawer not being closed all the way causing ice to form on drawer slide. Advised customer on checking to be sure right side of drawer is closing all the way. If issue returns recommend replacement of both drawer slides.

Customer has concerns about frost, forming on the back ball of the top left section of the freezer. compressor running too long because of the placement of the evaporator temperature sensor in the lower section of the freezer. Moved temperature sensor from bottom of evaporator to suction line on the evaporator as instructed by Techline. defrosted the machine aggressively. Customer also requested that we remove the icemaker from the machine. Also set temperatures in the refrigerator section higher because customer had complaints about freezing. Everything seems to be working properly. Customer is going to try.

Went through full test mode with Liebherr. Found that the freezer was set to 5 degrees. Will only make ice when its zero to -5. I adjusted temp to zero. Told customer that in 24 hours it should begin making ice: in test mode evaporation sensor reads -16, and freezer reads 2. Icemaker sensor reads 8 degrees. It cycled and filled with water when I forced it to in test mode.

The icemaker sometimes stops producing ice. Customer said they think its possibly related to the RO system tripping. There seems to be a correlation. I called Liebherr tech support, and we did a video call. When the RO goes out, it causes a pressure change, and the icemaker turns off as a safety. You have to make sure icemaker is off, then hold down the power button until it blinks. Then allow it to cycle, and then its ready to go.

Why is my Liebherr refrigerator at 59 degrees?
That's the temperature HolidayMode uses. Liebherr's HolidayMode raises the refrigerator section to 59°F (15°C) on purpose to save energy while you're away, and it's easy to switch on by accident in the settings menu. Turn it off and give the fridge a few hours to cool back down. HolidayMode doesn't change the freezer setting.
How long does a new Liebherr ice maker take to make ice?
Up to 24 hours for the first cubes, according to Liebherr, counted from when the ice maker is set up and switched on. It has to be hooked to a fixed potable water line. When an ice maker that's been working suddenly stops, make sure the water supply is open and the ice maker is still on. An overdue filter can cause it too.
Why are my vegetables freezing in the Liebherr BioFresh drawer?
BioFresh drawers run just above freezing, and you set the temperature with a B-value from B1, the coldest, up to B9. B5 is the default. Anywhere from B1 to B4, the drawer can hit 32°F, cold enough to freeze lettuce and other delicate produce. Raise the B-value in the customer menu, or keep cold-sensitive produce in the main fridge.
Why is my Liebherr fridge warm but the freezer is cold?
Liebherr fridge-freezers use DuoCooling, so the refrigerator and freezer each have their own cooling circuit. When only the fridge is warm, the cause often sits in that section's own fan, sensor or controls. Before calling, make sure HolidayMode, CleaningMode and DemoMode are all off and the vents aren't blocked. If the settings look right, the refrigerator needs a proper diagnosis.
