Monogram is GE Appliances' luxury brand. GE Appliances is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, and Haier has owned it since 2016. The built-in refrigerators are made at GE Appliances' Selmer, Tennessee plant. On the refrigeration side, Monogram builds French-door, side-by-side and bottom-freezer built-ins plus fully integrated column refrigerators, freezers and wine reserves. For cooking there are professional ranges and rangetops, wall ovens and cooktops, along with ventilation. Refrigeration is where most of our Monogram work happens.

What makes a Monogram different to service

Built-in Monogram refrigerators are top heavy, and they're anchored for a reason. Monogram's installation instructions call for an anti-tip bracket because the unit can tip forward when the doors are open. Pulling one out for service takes two careful people, and it's not something an owner should try.

Leveling is done at four points, all from the front. The front legs and the rear wheels adjust without moving the unit, and the case has to be level and plumb with the cabinets or the doors won't seal. A refrigerator that has settled out of level is behind a lot of door and ice maker complaints.

The water hookup has its own rules. For the ice maker you need cold water at 40 to 120 psi, delivered through copper tubing or Monogram's approved connector, with a shut-off valve you can get to. Monogram's bypass plug goes in place of the filter when the house already runs a whole-home filter or reverse osmosis.

Current Monogram refrigerators and ranges run on electronic controls and connect through the SmartHQ app. For diagnostics, Monogram service may plug into the onboard data port.

On the cooking side, Monogram's Statement series dual fuel ranges combine 23,000 BTU multi-ring brass burners and an oven with reverse-air convection.

Locating the model and serial label

Built-in side-by-side refrigerators have the model and serial label low on the right side of the fresh food compartment, just under the climate-control drawer. The other refrigerator styles and the cooking products put it in different places. Your model's installation instructions have a diagram that shows where the rating label is. Have the model and the serial number ready when you book a repair.

Three habits worth building

• Change the refrigerator water filter when the indicator goes red, or earlier if flow to the dispenser or ice maker slows down. Orange means a replacement is coming due.
• Keep rugs, trim and clutter away from the refrigerator's grille so the refrigeration system can breathe.
• Leave the door alarm on. It sounds when a door has been open for more than two minutes.

Humid summers and empty houses

Monogram's own troubleshooting blames high humidity for moisture forming on the cabinet between the doors, and it recommends air conditioning to keep kitchen humidity down. That's common in Southwest Florida homes, particularly when a house is shut up or the thermostat gets set high for summer.

Heading out for the season? Monogram wants the ice maker off and its water supply shut off for any time you're away. If you'll be gone a long time, it suggests emptying out the food, switching the controls off, cleaning the inside and propping the doors open. A room that could dip under 60°F, which happens in Minnesota and Wisconsin, gets the same long-absence treatment in Monogram's book.

Monogram's warranty in plain terms

Monogram refrigerators come with a parts-and-labor period, and then the sealed refrigeration system gets longer coverage, with the later years covering parts only. Covered repairs go through Monogram's factory service or its authorized technicians. What's covered on yours depends on the model and the date you bought it.
