Wolf appliances we repair

More than the red knobs

Wolf has been the cooking half of the Sub-Zero family since 2000. The professional-style range is what it's known for, and it comes in dual fuel, all-gas and induction versions. The rest of the lineup runs much wider than the range alone. There are gas and sealed-burner rangetops, gas, induction and modular cooktops, E series and M series wall ovens, convection steam ovens and speed ovens. Wolf also makes ventilation hoods, microwaves, built-in coffee systems, warming drawers and vacuum seal drawers, plus outdoor gas grills and grill modules.

How Wolf's engineering shapes the repair

Every Wolf gas burner is dual-stacked. The upper tier of ports gives you full heat, and the lower tier turns down to a tiny flame for simmering and melting. So when a burner lights fine on high but sputters or goes out on low, we look at its ports, its cap or its igniter.

The burners use spark ignition with automatic reignition, meaning they relight on their own when a flame goes out. That's exactly why a wet or crooked burner cap leads to the nonstop clicking owners call about.

On a dual fuel range the gas burners sit over an electric convection oven, and that oven is controlled by circuit boards and a temperature sensor. Wolf backs electronic control boards, heating elements and gas burners with 5-year limited coverage, which tells you how much weight those parts carry.

Oven calibration is another thing Wolf keeps in the hands of service. It says calibration is rarely needed, so before deciding your oven runs off, check the racks and the door gasket and make sure there's no foil on the oven floor.

Tracking down the Wolf serial tag

Where the tag sits depends on the appliance.

  • For dual fuel, gas and induction ranges, open the oven door and check the lower edge of the control panel, far right. Older R series gas ranges keep it under the left burner pan.
  • Sealed burner (SRT) rangetops have it at the bottom of the control panel on the far right, and open-burner RT models have it under the left burner pan on the side wall.
  • L series and E series 30-inch wall ovens have it below the control panel on the right with the door open. M series and newer E series models have it near the bottom trim on the left, and on doubles you check the lower oven.
  • Steam and speed ovens carry it on the left side of the front face frame, visible with the door open.
  • Induction cooktops have it on the bottom of the cooktop.
  • Outdoor gas grills hide it above the drip tray, behind the logo, so pull the drip tray out to see it.

Small habits that prevent service calls

Keep the burner caps and rings clean, dry and sitting centered. After a boil-over or a wipe-down, give the burners time to dry completely before you light them again. Turn the hood on before you fire up a charbroiler, which Wolf recommends because it improves airflow and heads off ignition problems.

A lot of glitches go away with a power reset. Flip the range's breaker off for 30 seconds and then back on. For the stainless, clean with the grain using a non-abrasive cleaner and polish it afterward.

Salt air on the lanai, outages up north

Wolf's own stainless care guidance warns that stainless isn't stain-proof where the air is salty, and that parts exposed to salt water can rust as the years go by. On a lanai or an outdoor kitchen near the Gulf, wipe the grills and hoods down regularly, keep them covered when you're not cooking, and deal with rust spots early before a part needs replacing.

When a summer storm knocks out the power, a dual fuel oven may not respond until you reset the time-of-day clock. Wolf says the oven won't turn on until the clock is set. Minnesota and Wisconsin owners will see the same thing after a winter outage.

Who to call while Wolf's warranty is active

Wolf's residential warranty gives you a full coverage period, then a longer limited parts warranty on certain components. Full-warranty work has to be done by Wolf factory certified service. Exact coverage depends on your model and when you bought it. Still inside the full warranty period? Contact Wolf first.

Wolf repair FAQ

Which Wolf appliances do you repair?

We repair Wolf ranges, wall ovens, cooktops, microwaves and more, in homes across Minnesota, Western Wisconsin and Southwest Florida.

Why does my Wolf range keep clicking?

Nonstop clicking almost always comes from moisture or food on the burner, or from a cap or ring that isn't sitting flat and centered. Let wet burners dry completely, clean the caps and make sure no knob is stuck in. If it clicks with every burner off, or the sparking never stops, the wiring polarity or the spark module may be the problem.

Where is the model number on a Wolf range?

Open the oven door on a current dual fuel, gas or induction range and check the bottom of the control panel, far right. Older R series gas ranges keep the tag under the left burner pan, on the left wall of the burner box. It shows both the model and serial number.

What are dual-stacked burners on a Wolf?

Wolf's sealed gas burners each have two tiers of flame ports. The top tier delivers full output for searing and boiling, and the bottom tier drops to a tiny flame for simmering and melting. When high works but low settings act up, it's the lower ports or the burner cap that need attention.

How long should a Wolf gas oven take to light?

Wolf says 30 to 45 seconds is typical, and a brand new oven can take up to a minute the first time. Anything slower than that deserves a look, and a weak glow igniter is a common reason. If you smell gas and the oven hasn't lit, turn it off and don't use it again until it's been repaired.

How much does Wolf appliance repair cost?

The trip and diagnostic fee depends on the appliance, starting at $129. Your technician quotes the repair upfront using the Appliance Blue Book, before any work begins.

Is the repair guaranteed?

Repairs you pay us for directly come with a 10-year warranty on parts and a 60-day labor warranty. When a manufacturer, home warranty company or other third party pays for the repair, that company's warranty applies instead.

Wolf is a trademark of its owner.
