Where to Find Your Model and Serial Number

When you book a repair, the model number is the most useful thing you can give us. It tells your technician exactly which parts fit your appliance, which gives us a much better shot at fixing it on the first visit. The serial number helps too. It often shows when the appliance was built and whether it may still be under warranty.

Both numbers are printed on a sticker or small metal plate called the rating tag. Here's where to look.

Refrigerators and freezers

Open the fresh food door and check the side walls of the cabinet near the top. Some models put the tag on the ceiling of the fridge, behind the crisper drawers, or down low behind the kick plate at the bottom. On a chest freezer, look on the outside back wall or under the lid.

Washers

On a top loader, lift the lid and check the underside of the lid or the back of the control panel. On a front loader, open the door and look around the door frame. If it isn't there, check the back of the machine.

Dryers

Open the door and look around the opening on the cabinet. Some dryers have the tag on the back panel or on one side instead.

Dishwashers

Open the door partway and look along the edges of the inner door, top, sides and bottom. A few brands put the tag on the side of the tub opening.

Ranges, wall ovens and cooktops

Open the oven door and look along the frame around the opening. On many ranges you'll find it on the frame behind the storage drawer, so pull the drawer out and look there too. For a cooktop, check the underside of the unit from inside the cabinet below it.

Microwaves

Open the door and look on the frame around the opening. Over the range models sometimes have a second tag on the bottom of the unit.

If you find the tag, snap a clear photo of it. You can add the photo when you book online, and it saves a step at the visit. If the tag is missing or worn off, don't worry. Your technician can still identify the appliance when they arrive.
